Putting an option for a chatbox somewhere on the forum so everyone can talk at once like a group instant message and still have the personal threads.

Hey there,
you can insert a chatbox quite easy already. Either you put the chatbox code direct into your header or footer Admin->Layout->Header & Footer...

Or you insert HTML code for a chat box into the description of a forum directly

Or you create an own HTML page, navigate to Admin->Layout->Custom pages, create a page, insert the HTML code (loads of free HTML chat codes out there :) et voilà, there you go. Hope that helped.
