I have been asked if there is any way that a member can tell if his post has been read besides keeping a tally of the number of times the thread has received a hit.

I have also been asked about the disk that is alongside the title of each forum title page. We have worked our that when it changes from grey to red it means that a new post has been made. We are a little mystified what the scrolling text means whilst it is grey or red.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Phil,

well I'm afraid, but the only way you can see that your topic has been viewed / read is the hit counter. A lot of hits is normally a positive indication that the post has received attention. Even if you have a signal / sign / image which starts to blink when someone clicks the thread (let's call it visual hit counter :) will not be an evidence that the post will be really read (and not only been clicked). So I think the hit counter is the only possibility right now, sorry about that.

The scrolling disk image: You're right, red signs mean "new post" and the mysterious scrolling disk means Hot topic. A Hot topic is a topic with a lot of replies. You can manage the Hot topic settings via Admin->Layout->Color & Settings->Topic status. Good luck anymore with building up your forum!

Once again thank you for your prompt reply in answer to my question. I will relay your reply to our members. We are still struggling to build up our numbers and any advice you could give would be gratefully accepted.

Sorry this might be the wrong place to ask this question, but is it not possible to set up a forum so that all the latest posts to each forum subject can be displayed on one page. I am assured that this is a feature of other forums.

I'll give a few tips in English beginning next week & hope that'll help finding new members for your forum! Should not be a problem at all I guess, your forum has a clear design, very active members and a lot of topics - those are important points boosting a board. (For the weekend you could start for instance to animate your members inviting their friends and families...)

Keeping a tab on post reads isn't possible the way you describe it, other than using the 'read' or 'hit' counter anyway.

You can however get automatic email notifications when a new post is made to any thread, by 'subscribing' to it.... Scroll to the bottom of the thread, and click "Notify me when new posts arrive (subscribe)". You can unsubscribe from your profile...

The latter is what we use on our community, as it makes it easy to keep up with interesting threads.

Yes it is possible ;) You already have the function (link) "Newest post" at the bottom of your forum, shows you all unread posts on one page http://205004.xobor.com/forum.php?show=last

If you want to have this link e.g. as a menu item in your navigation bar, just go to Admin->Layout->Navigation, select Add a new link, insert the URL and decide, which user group is allowed to see this overview.
