Hi everyone, its me, Spinosaur King again,

First of all, id just like to say that Xobor is by far the best forum maker ive come across, very easy to use etc.
Anyway, now for what i really came here for:

Recently, i have been having problems with users on my forum, and i have had to ban several users as part of my "three strikes and your out" system (im very tough on people who troll and spam ).
But some of them simply make another account, and start all over again, causing more hastle for me, and my loyal Moderators.
This is where my suggestion comes in.
As of now, Xobor only has a basic "ban" system, that allows you to ban accounts, and even delete them.
But i think it would be good, if Xobor implemented a way of banning someones IP address. This way, people who keep creating accounts to harras the forum, they can be stopped permanently and will not be able to create another account unless the administrator(s) permitt it.
Many other forum makers already have this feature implemented into the software, and it would be very helpfull if xobor could add it too.

thx for your suggestion and the laud We're discussing this situation, but due to changing IP addresses easily we're not sure if a ban by IP will be the best solution. Anyway, spam is annoying and we're looking forward to improve the spam prevention continuously.

I'm pretty strict with users as well Spinosaur King, and like you I've got a 'three stikes and you're out' policy in place. Also just like you, I've also had the tiresome fool or two keep trying to come back under different names and email addy!

Lacking the ability to ban by IP, what I did was to crank up the registration to its highest setting, and insist as part of registration that they tell me roughly where they live in the world ie - country & county etc. Its then easy to check the user IP at registration with (say) Whois to see if they're trying to come in via a web-proxy and/or any other 'hints of misbehaviour and alternate identity' shall we say.

Okay, yes it does slow down the registration process and is a pain to administer - but that comes with Admin territory sometimes

Pam --- Banning by IP is workable but relativly straightforward to get around using Anonymous Proxies etc. But there are other means of identification, further into the message packets, that could be recorded and used to ban.....

Thanks for the swift reply!
I understand the situation with changing Ip's as this can make it difficult to ban them.
However, usually, the source of this problem is a proxy server.
And heres another suggestion (sorry if im being a pain, im full of suggestion lately )
Anyway, to stop proxy servers from getting pass an ip ban system (if xobor ever implement it), you can always implement a Anti-propxy software. These are downloadable, and some forum makers already have them.

Hi Archmage,

You have had the same problem as me? Then we share eachothers pain .
I too have the highest security on my foirum, so that users must activate a link in an email, confirm that email, then be activated by me.
The catchpa code system on my forum is also on high level to stop automated spam (something that destroyed another forum i used to go to on Xobor......)

But yeah, i hpe Xobor implement an Ip ban system, it would do alot of good.
